Random Thoughts On Keyword Research Basics
Continuing with the keyword research theme, I'm going to share some random thoughts on this subject. I'm not a keyword research pro or anything like that (lol), but I've learned quite a bit about it over the last year.
The most important thing I can share with you today is this: the whole point of doing keyword research is to uncover search terms the people in your niche use when searching for information and/or for solutions to their problems. The key thing is to discover the search terms the people in your niche use; not keywords you think they use. So unless you're Marvin the Mind Reader, you can skip the intuitive method of keyword research, OK? Not only that, but you also have to filter and analyze these keywords so you can know which ones are worthwhile for you to focus on -- because without the right keywords your affiliate marketing career is going to be pretty frustrating. Here's why: let's say you're promoting "Baloney4 Gas". You need to find, filter and analyze the keywords to determine which ones are going to be profitable. When you fire up your favorite keyword tool, you notice that "baloney 4 gas" gets roughly 300 searches per day, but it has more than 570,000 competing pages in Google's search engine. That term is a bit too competitive for our SEO efforts. And even though it's the product name, it isn't an action oriented keyword, so we drill down for terms that buyers might use (after all, we want folks who are looking to make a buying decision on this product). So we look at search terms like "baloney 4 gas review", "buy baloney 4 gas", "baloney 4 gas scam", "baloney 4 gas kit", "baloney for fuel car", etc. to see which ones generate a decent number of daily searches, have more than a few sponsored ads and less than 100K competing pages in Google's search results. There's much more to keyword research, but I just wanted to share some basic ideas with you. Besides that my brain and my fingers are starting to disagree with one another (lol).
Before I go, I want to point you to two (2) new internet marketing product review lenses I've published. Google Manipulator Reviewed covers Pawel Reszka's Google Manipulator manual. It's a "how to" about juicing the SERP's to get top search engine rankings and targeted web site traffic to your affiliate landing pages. You can get more info about it here: http://www.squidoo.com/googlemanipulatorreviewed and discover what I think of the product. And Day Job Killer Nemesis covers Google Nemesis, which is the sequel to Day Job Killer. You can get more info on it here: http://www.squidoo.com/day-job-killer-nemesis. Disclosure: I am promoting both products as an affiliate, but if you've read eBay Crusher Scam, you know I don't do fluff affiliate reviews and with these two (2) new ones I give you the straight skinny on both.
